What research helps us understand
Our beliefs are our own. They are informed by decades of work in psychology, education and organisational research. This is where we acknowledge the ideas that have shaped our thinking.
On the layer beneath the layer
Guftagoo Works draws on Patrick Lencioni’s The Five Dysfunctions of a Team. Trust and honest conflict are the two foundational layers a team needs before conventional team-building can work, layers a single offsite cannot install on its own.
On the work of becoming somebody
Informed by research on adolescent identity development, including the work of Erik Erikson, James Marcia and Dan McAdams. Udaan gives that exploration a place to happen out loud, with a parent listening rather than editing.
On the skill beneath the safety
Guftagoo Works draws on research into emotional intelligence, including the work of Peter Salovey and John Mayer. Going first, week after week, is the practised skill underneath a team’s psychological safety.
On what a teenager needs to flourish
Informed by Self-Determination Theory, the work of Richard Ryan and Edward Deci on the psychological needs that support motivation and wellbeing. Udaan is designed around autonomy, competence and relatedness at once.
On the stages of psychological safety
Guftagoo Works is informed by research on psychological safety, including the work of William Kahn, Edgar Schein, Amy Edmondson and Dr Timothy R. Clark. The six-month practice adapts these ideas into a practical, manager-led conversation journey.
